a terrible earthquake shook Ecuador. Regardless of his own life, the dog searched for survivors under the rubble, trying to save as many lives as possible. His astonishing story of courage has highlighted his great dedication and loyalty, qualities rare at present.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake trapped many people in collapsed buildings. DAYKO carried out his search without fail and tried to save as many people as possible continuously for several days. In total, he saved the lives of seven people.
Suddenly, Dayko died of severe exhaustion while searching for more survivors. As his colleagues reported, he suddenly collapsed, suffering from heatstroke. Veterinarians did their best to save him but did not succeed. This beautiful and lovable white labrador lost his own life while saving the lives of seven people trapped under rubble.

DAYKO did not pay attention to his own signs of fatigue and continued his work, but he paid for this dedication with his life.

His colleagues in the fire department had a hard time accepting the loss of their dear friend. Still saddened by the death of their companion, the firefighters of the Ibara barracks wrote on their Facebook page:

"We regret to inform you that today the firefighters are in mourning because we have just lost Dayko."
